Our Vision Statement
A welcoming and safe place to meet and follow Jesus
In practice this means:
Welcoming - As one family we are open and friendly to all and live in harmony together. Our shared hospitality builds relationships and invites others to join and share with us the love of Jesus.
Safe - We are a nurturing fellowship where everyone can find love, acceptance and encouragement, and where the needs of vulnerable people can be met with warmth and compassion.
Place - The ‘church’ is wherever the Lord’s people are but we thank God for Chenies’ long history of witness from the place where we gather. It is a precious legacy providing a friendly space to share Jesus and to bless other churches and community groups.
Where we can meet Jesus - We love the Lord Jesus because He first loved us and we want others to know and love Him too. Our services are flexible to reflect different ways of meeting with Him and we also offer a range of ‘outreach’ activities as bridges to the wider community, allowing time and space for people to discover Jesus.
Where we follow Jesus - We demonstrate how to be true disciples through obedience to His word and to the Holy Spirit, helping to identify others’ God-given abilities and encouraging public and private prayer and testimony. We use our finances joyfully to share the gospel at home and abroad and to support those developing their ministry before going out to serve the Lord.
We love the Lord Jesus and aim to follow Him in every way
We are one family, welcoming, forgiving and caring for one another
We care for those who are vulnerable, suffering or have a special need
We use our finances and spiritual gifts to expand the kingdom of God and to bless others
We help people to grow strong and fruitful in their walk with the Lord
We build people up and support others to serve the Lord elsewhere
As a body that acknowledges the authority of the Bible, here are a few key verses for Chenies Baptist Church:
God so loved the world that He gave His only Son (Jn 3:16) ; I am the Way, the Truth and the Life (Jn 14:6)
Love one another as I have loved you (Jn 15:12)
If you love me, you will keep my commandments (Jn 14:15)
Go into all the world and make disciples (Mt 28:19-20)
For life to work and make sense we need to be relating to God, our creator. Tragically a chasm has opened up between us because of wrong actions and priorities in our lives. Wonderfully, God hasn’t left us stranded but has sent his son, Jesus, into the world to bridge the gap and through Jesus and the personal work of God’s Holy Spirit everyone can now encounter and know God.
Chenies Baptist is a place where you can discover how to live in relationship with the living God.
At Chenies we want to learn together what it means to be a true follower of Jesus. We find gathering together on Sundays and in small groups really helps to discover how to live as true disciples in a complex and often confusing world.
We are discovering that God blesses when we seek to bless others and that a life of true greatness is one of great service at work, in our community and in our homes.
TRANSFORMING THE WORLD
God desires to transform the world and wants us to work with Him to achieve this. At Chenies Baptist we seek to support all age groups, toddlers, teenagers, families and older members of community through weekly activities and we partner with Chiltern Food Bank to support those in our community who have stumbled on hard times.
Our prayers and finance also go to support mission partners in France, Spain, South Africa, China and Wales bringing the Good News and practical care to local communities beyond our area.
